Hostess Brands - Bread Review from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Bought a loaf of white bread from Speedway. The sell buy date was January.

Later that day opened the bag and was overcome by an awful smell. I can't describe the smell . It was so bad I couldn't stomach it.

I will never purchase this product ever again. No offense Hostess!

Reduced size of SnoBalls

I recently purchased two packages of Hostess SnoBalls, (2 to a pack). Guess what?

You have shrunken the size. Now really? Did you need to do that? Are you saving a huge sum of money by reducing the size of the product?

It is insulting to the consumer. This speaks volumes about your company's ethics. Looking at the product now, I realize the integrity of your product's name does not support the integrity of what you are producing. A small difference, most consumers would not recognize, but the "new" version is so much smaller, it stands out immediately.

It is incredible that you would feel the need to do that. It is not that the consumer cares that much about less content in the SnoBall, it is that you would have the marketing lack of insight to do it. It cannot be very many more ounces per batch, to retain your former brand recognition and reliability. The item is C 11192**** - *23 C1:09 - 8, best by Jan 23, 2016 Purchased at Fred Meyers, Inc.

I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about.

Son picked out a bag of the Mini Powdered Sugar Donuts (20) from our local Food Lion. Opened them same day...the taste and smell were horrible! Had a chemical smelk and taste. Checked expiration date and its tomorrow but there is NO reason they should be like they were. Even more reason to start eating clean non-processed foods!

Hostess Brands - Cupcake Review from Coxsackie, New York

After I purchased these cupcakes and looked in the box, I reallized there were only 8 single cupcakes in the box. When I purchase these packs individually at my local convenient store there are always 2 in a pack. The box does say,"8 individually wrapped cakes", but since they are always sold 2 in a pack, I believed I was getting a good deal. Especially, since I usually pay 99 cent for one package of two cup cakes. Pffff...what a scam!

Paint Thinner donuts

I just opened a package I bought from the vending machine here at our office, lot #5C091523****580055 and they tasted like paint thinner. I googled it and can not believe all the reports out there.

I also found a number that consumers can call to complain to Hostess 1-80*-777-****. Now if they do anything about the complaints; we will see.

As far as this package, I am very tempted to contact a tv station here in town since they are headquartered here in Kansas City and send the package to them. I will say this will be my last package of donuts ever bought from them after reading all the complaints out there.

I had the same experience with my Hostess purchase yesterday. I should post pictures of the surprise my donuts had in store for me.

I must be a lucky one because my package not only had the chemical smell but the donut's center holes were filled with a white dust/lint like substance. I'm curious as to what type of mold this is and what I should expect health wise from ingesting the first one before seeing or smelling the foul odor and mold. It didn't stay down long as I was vomiting violently after knowing what just occurred.

I will never forget that smell !! Does anyone want to purchase my remaining packages ?

Guest

I as well am experiencing the same issue. I actually consumed one before being able to spit it out.

I am also 6 months pregnant.

Has anyone heard what this smell is? Brandy

I had the same experience. I called hostess.

It was an in date bag of donuts. They say it is an additive that breaks down mold (the smell is the reaction when mold is present). I asked if there were any adverse reactions if it is consumed.

He said all they had heard of was a stomach ache. I could seek medical attn if I wanted and they would cover the cost.

Omg I really hope u & baby are good all healthy after this. It's *** that we're the ones consuming these without explanations to why we aren't importain enough and valued enough to be treated like the employees with fresh non-expired products. God Bless

Zingers are now Zungers!

11.25.2015

Last week brought a box of zingers w/ Dec 24 expiration date. The icing was rock hard. Blah.

Thinking just got a bad box, today brought another box with same expiration date. Again, rock hard icing. Double blah.

The chocolate cupcakes never tasted right after the "come back." And now zingers. 75% done with Hostess.

Mold on Hostess Chocolate Donettes

Bought a bag of Hostess Chocolate Donettes on Saturday October 17, 2015, from a local Dollar General. After taking them home, I opened the bag, and there was a fermented smell.

A closer look revealed what looked like cob webs on my snacks. It is mold! The bag had an expiration date of 10-15-2015. I understand I bought a bag of expired Donettes.

However, I would expect the product to last a couple of days beyond the expectancy. I never expected to find mold in a Hostess product. The Hostess vendor should have pulled these before they ever sold.

Having ate a couple of them, I had severe cramps with wet stool. Mold is dangerous!

I am also getting sick from a donette I ate earlier today so I decided to check the rest of the the package for mold. I found a cobwebby substance and when I pulled the donut apart, a spider crawled out of the inside of the donut.

Not from the top of the donut..

from the actual interior. I think Hostess should be sued over these unsafe donuts.

Guest

Bought Hostess Powdered Donettes at CVS. Upon opening, the strongest, chemical smell.

Was shocking. No one got sick yet. It's only a couple of hours and only tiny *** was taken. I pray nothing worse happens l.

Returned to store and got a refund. There was only one package left on the shelf. I wonder how many others had the same experience and didn't say anything?

I see online that the same has happened before. This is scary!

Guest

To cut costs with the re-emergence of the Hostess name, the new owners of the company don't have local salespeople or delivery route employees like other bread and snack cake companies that rotate and restock fresh product sometimes numerous times/ week. They have extended their "shelf life to 65 days - yes, over TWO months - on all snack cakes.

They ship directly to retailer warehouses where the products sit until the individual store orders them to be shipped to the store with other items such as canned goods, cleaning supplies, or even t-shirts. Your donuts were only 67 days old the day you purchased them!

Hostess powder sugar doughnuts tastes like straight flour??

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
There was no powder sugar on my doughnuts i recently purchased at all. They all tasted like straight flour?? what has happened to Hostess? I will never purchase anything from them again! When I was little I used to eat the powder doughnuts in the bag and never any problems. I purchased these doughnuts more than once at our Dollar General Store in town here and 3 packages tasted like FLOUR?!?. My bad for giving them three chances to possibly think one of the bags was just horrible but nope, all three tasted like flour. No powder sugar on them at all?? This is such a Major disappointment as I had always like hostess when I was younger. I will not allow my children to purchase any type of hostess brand from here on out as I feel it is just going to be a complete waste of money!. Shame on you hostess for false advertising and for not double checking your products before shipping them out to stores for consumers to purchase only to be let down or heaven forbid, become ill.

What have you done?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have purchase Twinkies for over 30 years. I'm done.

They are tough and chewy and the filling is runny. YUCK!!! They are nothing like I am used to. Overall they are huge disappointment.

The filling used to be fluffy - not any more. The cake - I don't know but they are so tough and chewy they are hard to even finish. I dunked them in coffee and that seems to help. Why would you change something that was perfect?

Makes no sense to me and I wish you would go make to the old recipe. I will not buying them again.

I had never eaten a Twinkie till the chocolate ones came out. It's been a few months with me buying them once a month with no problem.

Then the other day, I bit into one and something popped in the Twinkie. I still don't know what it was, but it was very unpleasant.

Can't eat any of what is left in the box. Yuck!

Guest

We never really buy Twinkies to begin with. But my son tossed it into the cart and I got home and saw it in the bag.

I saved it for myself and had it the other day. Disappointed to say the least. I haven't had one in a few years. And haven't missed out I guess.

The cake is chewy, not chewy good. Chewy bad was like trying to eat sugar cardboard.

Was left feeling empty too. :(

Guest

I absolutely agree. It had been several years since I succumbed to the Twinkie temptation.

Disappointing is right. Just as others have said, tough and chewy. In fact, that's how I found this site. I Googled "Twinkies tough".

I might also add that they have a slightly bitter taste on the tongue. Not at all what I expected: light, tender and sweet.

Guest

I thought I had a bad batch. Tough

Chewy. Guess it's lil Debbie time.

Guest

I agree. The last couple times I bought Twinkies they were tough and chewy.

I thought maybe they were old or stored improperly, but someone sent us a box from another state and they were just as nasty. We are done with Twinkies if they are going to be like that...yuck!

Guest

65 day shelf life with a ton of preservatives...need I say more

Guest

They are so horrible now . Small , tough , not light and airy they are very dense and chewy and the outside texture is horrible
