Hostess Brands Ho Hos Cake Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They ruined the HO-HOs! The package boasts of the new, "best" chocolate taste ever. It is waxy, overly sweet, not at all like chocolate and over all disgusting! Bought several packages and they are going in the trash.

Hostess Twinkies no longer soft...

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

To whom it may concern: My name is Mr. Catarino Cerrillo, I am 67 yrs.

old, served two tours overseas as an combat infantry soldier. I have always loved the Hostess brand from childhood but mostly the Twinkie itself. Lately, the past two purchases, the first purchase of 2 boxes and the second purchase of 6 boxes that we put out for the grandchildren and neighborhood children, have been absolutely too firm to the touch as though they have been sitting around for a spell and not as soft as they used to be, all but one box. We purchase our Hostess products from Sam's Club in Canyon Country, CA where we do most of our shopping.

I wanted to let you know this in order that maybe the products are not being replaced or sitting to long in the warehouse.

Don't get me wrong, the kids enjoyed them but myself, well, it seemed to stale and I want the kids to enjoy what I enjoyed when I was young. My email is: catarino_cerrillo@***.com.

What an imbecile!! Have some respect.

He deserves praise.

If you don't understand what people write then you shouldn't

be reading. You definitely shouldn't be commenting. I'd like to

hear what you've done in your life..Respect your elders. Oh

by the way what about those Hostess Twinkies?

I haven't tried

Twinkies but use to love SusieQ's. Saddened after purchasing them. They are horrible now.

Making your own is a better idea. Not buying Hostess again.

Hostess Brands - Cupcake Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Been buying hostess for more than50 years. Quite a few years ago I called and said you folks changed the chocolate cupcakes I was told no its been the same recipe forever. The chocolate used to be darker and more moist. I was told no. I just bought a suzy Q the cake IS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT , ITS NOT DARK LIKE IT USED TO BE AND THE CAKE IS RECTANGLE CUT IN THE PAST IT HAD ROUNDED EDGES AND WAS MORE DENSE. SO WHAT'S UP ! PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THEY ARE THE SAME !

The Suzy Q is not the same. I ate Suzy Q's when they were $0.25, $0.29, $0.49, etc.

The Suzy Q is horrible now. The reason it is horrible is because it is Genetically Modified or as they say, Genetic Engineering. The bakers that were fired and lost their pensions know how to make the cakes in the correct manner. I am sure they said the *** with the new owners that purchased the company.

The entire company went under so they would not have to honor the pensions. It is time for me to stop eating genetically engineered food.

I agree. I'm tired of having to buy and eat less than quality food products.

I remember when cupcakes were 10 cents. Along time ago, but hostess' cakes were very delicious.

Guest

It seems that all of the classic Hostess cakes and pies are nowhere near as good as they were before Hostess went bankrupt, and sold the trademarked product names to another company. What a shame.

Guest

U guys changed the suzy q go back to the old ones the new 1 suck

I bought a package out of the vending machine at work on December 1st, 2015. They had not yet expired, but would be by December 19th, 2015.

I didn't look at the expiration until after the incident. Within the first ***, the smell was very distinct and horrible and I feel as though I've been poisoned. This is ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed to happen.

I am actually very concerned, threw the rest away and kept one incase I was poisoned and needed medical attention. You should be ashamed!

Same issue!

Guest

We just had this happen with a box of ho-ho’s. They appeared to have expired Dec.

2021. Tasted like chemicals and the smell was bad too.

Guest

Just opened a twinke, the taste and smell is so bad. I felt really sick for 3 hours, I also have such a bad headache from the smell.

Guest

My Cupcake tasted like gasoline / butane, spit it out immediately but the others in the box are fine? I ate another from the same box beforehand.

Guest

25 Oct 2021- stopped at the local 711 to get a cup of coffee and some donuts. I picked up some of the Hostess blueberry donuts (2pack).

Upon opening the package I was taken back by the smell but thought perhaps it was just in my mind. The first bite I took confirmed it, something isn’t right.

These donuts taste EXACTLY like the smell of sanding acrylic. Something is wrong!

Guest

Tasted like gasoline burnt my throat and I’m nauseated

Guest

Mine was the last of the box that I’d bought just the day before and it smelt like paint and tasted like fresh paint and burnt my mouth

Dawnelle Heb

Yes! My chocolate Zinger that I just opened had such a terrible after taste of gasoline chemicals, that I couldn't even finish it.

The vanilla one I had a minute ago was fine.

But dear god. The chocolate one tastes like poison.

Guest

Happened to me last night. Bought a large pack at Sam’s club.

Tasted one and immediately got sick.

It tasted liked gas or something horrible. Opened a few and all had that terrible strong smell.

Hostess Donettes SUCK

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

At first I thought it was just me. I bought a bag of mini Hostess powdered donuts and they had a chemical taste to them.

I had the wife try one and she said the same thing. A few days later I was talking to mother in law on the phone and she mention that she'd gotten some Hostess mini powdered donuts and thought they tasted funny and she threw them out. Then I read one of the reviews here that said the same thing. "A chemical taste".

I've been eating Hostess products for over 50 years (back when Twinkies were 10 cents and much bigger than today's Twinkies) and there is no doubt that they just aren't what they used to be. Size, flavor, texture are not the same. Funny thing is I bought a box of Snack Planet powdered mini donuts at the dollar store and they are quite tasty. Better product, less money.

WIN WIN. Sorry Hostess, your products are way over priced and not very good.

Kerosene Donettes

I've been staying away from Hostess for awhile now - guess I should have kept away. I bought a 6 pack of the Donettes from the store across the street from the office because I was craving a little something sweet.

The selection isn't great so I thought what the heck, these are always good, right? I couldn't have been more wrong! They tasted like kerosene and smelled off. I took one *** and spit it out.

It was awful, then I smelled the pack and the longer it was open the more the smell filled my office. It nauseated me. I never had any issue with your products till you moved out of country. Lately the Twinkies are chewy and stale and now this.

I was better off with my boycott of your Union Busting products. ***

They sure don't make 'em like they used to!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Before Halloween we purchased Chocolate Twinkies and Caramel Apple cupcakes. Neither tasted appetizing at all! I can't say that either had a chemical taste or a stale taste, but just that they tasted bad! The cake was more dried out than expected and the cream filling just had a weird taste, not typical for what you might expect of a chocolate icing or pudding or cream filling. The icing on the cupcakes was brittle and tasted awful. Bear in mind that these items were considered sufficiently 'fresh' because they were purchased and consumed well before the 'best by' date. The good news is that when we reported the issue to the company, they were kind enough to provide us with coupons to try the products again. Instead, we opted to try the mini apple pies. They didn't taste terrible, but they weren't really great either. Very small (of course, they're mini!), but with more crust than filling. And apple chunks in the filling? Definitely few and far between. None of these desserts come anywhere chose to the high quality we had come to expect Hostess products -- especially the Hostess products as they were produced during the 60's and 70's. However, there is one Hostess product that we have actually enjoyed buying and eating for quite a while now: the orange cupcakes. Occasionally they might taste a little stale (that's because sometimes the only place I can find and buy that flavor is at Big Lots, and as an official 'outlet' what they have can be a bit short-dated), but otherwise they have a fine taste.

Suzy Q's

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have been a hostess consumer since the 70's and I just bough a box of Suzy Q's and they are not anything like the original Suzy Q's. The devils food cake is no where the same as the legacy cakes, they are also smaller. Very disappointed and will not buy them anymore. I will still possibly purchase other Hostess products but no the Suzy Q's. The packaging has changed but the product is expected to produce the same quality item as in the past and it is not. I am undecided if I will purchase any thing again. Thank you for the forum to make my dissatisfaction known. Please change the Suzy Q's cakes to be like the were in the past.

I was born in the late 60s and was brought up having Hostess snacks. I enjoyed them. Since the new company, the taste of these snacks are horrific! I just bought some. Frosted chocolate cupcakes and gagged when i took a ***. It tasted like i was eating a bad chemical. No joke! Very disapointed. Plus it says under the ingredients thst its partially produced with genetic engineering. So didapointed hostess. Please make better tasting products .
