REGARDING MOST HOSTESS PASTRY PRODUCTS: My husband and I bought a little convenience store on a lake. We've been filling it with only the best quality of products from local vendors but...then we remembered how Hostess was AWAYS the "go to..." for yummy snacks so we made an exception and added Hostess to the local bakers line-up.

The grand opening, customers came, breakfast/snack pastry sales were high...then suddenly stopped! Nothing much since that opening month, we can barely give the stuff away; we won't even eat them ourselves (we should have tried it all again before selling it, as we believed it to be the same quality we grew up knowing and loving. The donuts, among others, smell like chemicals (and my husband is a chemist), cupcakes are dry, pies contain a thin swipe of goo with barely a glint of that sugary glaze I used to lick off first working my way to the then delicious generous fruity pie filling. Packaging the pies in boxes rather than plastic seems to result in drying out faster.

Even the employee's children turn down the free Hostess (...THAT says a lot!). Hostess quality has plummeted and we are deeply disappointed.

We're getting rid of everything Hostess ...back to fresh baked goods by local merchants. We are working hard to earn our customers back with our fresh, wholesome & unforgettable food choices, which no longer includes nor is synonymous with Hostess.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Hostess Brands Pros: What it used to be, What the name hostess used to mean.

Hostess Brands Cons: What it is now, Quality, Smell, Taffy like frosting, Goo like fruit pie.

Location: Hyattsville, Maryland

Hostess stopped production due to high labor costs. The new company using the brand "hostess" apparently is trying to make a profit but with similar high labor costs it does what needs to be done in order to make the product successful: cheapen the product.

You see and taste the results, of course.

Sad to say, but the old Hostess products are a thing of the past and I suspect the new LLC operating under the Hostess name will fail. Customers just don't like what they are making now.
